Ten found guilty of cyber-bullying directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the couple's significant age difference.
The court issued conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A circulating unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the US against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their complaint contends that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence that refuted her assertions choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has often echoed these claims on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she was a teacher at his secondary school.
The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
